This is a good move to block. I am surprised the president doesn't have to sign. With it past the senate there is a good chance the house will jump in to block too. The harmful emissions on big trucks have been dramatically reduced already, a 99% reduction from 1975 to 2004. There is a planned requirement by 2025 (which is probably already met) that brings it to 99.25% lower than 1975....this new requirement in 10 years would bring that to 99.75% compared to 1975. The point of diminishing returns has long been reached, to get that extra "dramatic" improvement of 0.5% will be incredibly expensive and mostly require half to two thirds of trucks be electric. Just where does the electricity come from? Most from fossil fuels anyway and then there will be transmission losses, storage losses not to mention trucks see far more use than passenger cars so will wear thru batteries faster....The environmental benefit is far from clear.
The EPA estimates that by 2045 (22 years from now),...of course by 2045 those same appointed messengers of doom. won't be around to be challenged when their forecasts don't come true. Example, am 87 years old. Lived through the time when exhaust from cars and trucks was thick, black and rancid. Same for locomotives. Had lead pipes carrying our water. Painted with lead in our paint. Lead was an ingredient in gasoline. Heated our home with sulfur laden coal. People smoked up a storm. Swam in heavily polluted water. Used DDT in our gardens to kill the garden pests. All of our family lived to be over 70 with half of them living in their 90's. These scare tactics have been going on for decades with no acccountability. Just think about that.

Japan has had "mass-transit bullet trains since the 1960's - Americans are still waiting for our FIRST."

Mass-Transit is "much cheaper, and much less polluting." *** How about "we try to do what Japan did in the 1960's and BUILD our FIRST bullet train."
new electric trucks cost over $400k. No way independent drivers can afford that, even with the gov't subsidy. Electric performance dwindles in the cold weather too, especially pulling 40k lbs or more. Electric is not the answer, but woke peeps want you to believe it is. Porsche developed a hydrogen engine that emits water vapor. Performance of a combustion engine and clean for the environment. I would look at something like that first, but until that tech comes to light, I'd stick with Diesel engine with DEF.
to those who object, consider this: when we first started regulating emissions cars were starved of hp. within a short time, engineers problem solved and developed engines that made greater hp and were much more fuel efficient. today the c8 vette makes about 500 hp, but will get 28+ mpg on the highway. we have turbo 4's making 300+ hp and get greater than 30mpg. the auto industry was forced at first, but discovered the possibilities. the trucking industry can do the same.
All this is doing is pushing the independent trucker & small trucking companies out of business AND is driving up the cost of every item that ships over the road! All this so Brandon's investments in EV technology pay out! But before his investments will even payout, he's gonna be 6 ft under! Why does the old-coot even care??? California passed a clean air regulation yrs ago, even after it was known to be false data by a guy who lied about his credentials. Completely skewed science. Mary Nichols who was head of the CARB, knew this & still ramrodded this regulation thru in the middle of the night. This regulation went into full affect this year & has put thousands of Independent Truckers & small businesses out of business. This lady should be in jail.

Agencies that develop regulations should be required to provide to the public an analysis of how the regulations will affect costs to consumers including categorizing those costs. Since no "journalist" ever asks these kind of questions, it should be mandatory. It is clear to me that increasing the cost of transporting goods will raise the price of almost everything anyone buys.
The compression ignition engine has undergone extensive research and development on cutting Nox and particulates,. With the use of DEF (urea) to cut Nox and the DPF (diesel particulate filter) these elements have been reduced drastically in the SCR system (select catalyst reduction). Then add a biofuel and its next to ZERO. So what's the real issue here? Lies and more lies.

The new standards are pointless. The aftertreatment systems ALREADY IN PLACE on these vehicles completely eliminate all nox and soot emissions from diesel engines. In fact, with the system operating properly and in certain high smog locations, the air coming out of the pipe is cleaner than the air going in. FACTS.
